David Hunter is a technology leader known for architecting complex, high-performance systems across aerospace and enterprise software—bringing deep expertise in software engineering, product development, and systems integration, and a lifelong passion for aviation.
As Boom’s Vice President of Tech, David drives innovation in software engineering, product development, and complex systems integration and leads the software engineering, IT, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) teams at Boom, overseeing a diverse portfolio of custom software critical to Boom’s aircraft programs. His responsibilities span flight test control room systems, supersonic flight planning tools, high performance computing, and an advanced aircraft conceptual design framework. Before joining Boom, he held senior leadership roles such as Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Product Development at companies including Dow Jones, iRobot, Wave Systems, Hess Oil, and the David Sarnoff Research Center. His expertise in managing both domestic and international technical teams has driven innovation across a variety of industries. David’s software has powered critical operations worldwide—from U.S. Marines missions in Bosnia and the Dow Jones real-time newsroom to Boston University Hospital’s Cancer Center and secure financial transactions inside Diebold ATMs. His solutions have also been factory-installed on hundreds of millions of Dell laptops, underscoring his ability to deliver scalable, high-impact technology.
David holds degrees in Economics and Computer Science from Rutgers University. He’s a licensed private pilot and a passionate glider pilot, drawn to the precision and challenge of silent flight. He’s also a hands-on leader in the aviation community, having served as President of a flight school where he helped set its strategic direction and elevate safety standards. For David, flying isn’t just a hobby—it’s a lifelong passion that fuels his curiosity and mirrors the spirit of innovation he brings to Boom.
