Josh McFarland is a lifelong lover of aerospace and aviation, having grown up building rockets and flying with his dad in a Piper PA-18 Super Cub from their small town in Wyoming. Today, he’s a window-seat, shade-up, gazing-out kind of flyer. A longtime supporter of Boom’s mission to make the world dramatically more accessible through sustainable supersonic flight, Josh has served as both an early investor and strategic partner since 2016.
As board member, he oversees the go-to-market work for Boom Superpower, leads fundraising and focuses on bringing leverage to the executive team. As a Partner at Greylock Partners, one of Silicon Valley’s most storied venture capital firms, Josh invests in exceptional founders building category-defining companies across software, AI and infrastructure. Before joining Greylock, he was Vice President of Product at Twitter, where he led product management, engineering and strategy for the company’s core revenue platforms.
Earlier in his career, Josh co-founded and served as CEO of TellApart, a pioneering AI marketing technology company that became Twitter’s largest acquisition. Under his leadership, TellApart achieved $170 million in annual revenue and strong profitability—while earning a reputation for technical excellence and operational discipline. Josh began his career at Google, where he helped scale some of the company’s early advertising and analytics products, and has also founded and supported multiple mission-driven organizations, including the Family Giving Tree and MyTwoFrontTeeth.org.
Josh holds a BA in Economics with Distinction from Stanford University, where he was a Mayfield Fellow. He is proud to be the only graduate who has successfully launched a rocket off of his mortarboard during the graduation ceremony.
